John Monocello specializes in patent strategy and execution and is one of the lead members of GTC’s patent group. John leads the strategy and prosecution efforts for companies in many different technology areas and has extensive corporate and private practice experience in the life sciences and medical technology domains, including deep experience in the digital health and wearable spaces. “The brains behind many a successful portfolio, he works with his clients’ commercial goals in mind at all times.” Intellectual Asset Management Magazine Patent 1000 Rankings.

Prior to joining GTC in 2007, John established the in-house IP department and served as Director of Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs at BodyMedia, Inc., a leader in wearable body monitoring technology, and continued to represent BodyMedia and tend to its patent portfolio after joining GTC. BodyMedia was acquired by Jawbone in 2013. Prior to BodyMedia, John was in private practice where he focused on patent prosecution and IP litigation in the medical device, bioinformatics, software, and mechanical arts domains, among others. John is an inventor on pending patents related to application and uses for sensed physiological data. He holds a B.S. in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. from The University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
