“Copyright and the Limits of Textualism” by GTC Principal Tom Hemnes was published in the Journal of the Copyright Society, vol. 68, issue 3. In the article, Thomas examines the precepts of Textualism and Originalism in the context of copyright law. He shows that definitions of and the precedential use of words in the Copyright Act are not always a sufficient basis for judgment.  He argues that “meaning” and “purpose” are two sides of the same coin.
